This video by Gary Yost premiered last week to a sold-out house at the Throckmorton Theater in Mill Valley as part of an event to raise awareness of the restoration of the old air force station on the top of Mt. Tamalpais near San Francisco. Yost has been working for almost 5 years promoting the restoration, and you can see in the video that it is finally happening, though just beginning.
This new film is the last part of a trilogy about this spot on the top of Mt. Tamalpais. The aerials were absolutely essential to giving this location context. The first was shot from a Bell Jet Ranger in 2013. Yost used an Inspire X3 for the second one, now he says, “I finally am (incredibly) happy with the images I’m getting out of the X5R in this [third] one.” These three films were absolutely instrumental in building a groundswell of support in the community to raise the funds necessary to get this project started. And it’s started!
See more in this video about some of the folks actually working on the project. (The aerials in the beginning are all X3.)

In general, the aerials have been the biggest single factor in giving the community a solid picture of where this area is… literally on the summit of the tallest mountain near San Francisco, smack dab on top of a State Park (contiguous to the busiest National Park in the country, the Golden Gate Nat’l Recreation Area) but invisible to 99.9% of the public. Because of these films, and the support they’ve engendered, restoration of this area, once sacred to the indigenous Coastal Miwok indians, is now happening.
