A quiet buzz fills the air as a drone hovers two metres from the ground, scattering a flock of geese and catching a child’s attention,
Matt Dumas, the owner of London-based Red Bird Media, a tech company, was taking his DJI Phantom for a test flight at Springbank Park.
The 31-year-old was recently federally-certified to freely operate his drone almost anywhere in Southern Ontario, making him one of the region’s first operators with freedom to fly anywhere he wants.
The explosive growth of unmanned aerial vehicles, better known as drones, is already causing safety headaches in some parts of Canada, especially at airports, with many operators flying with no training.
